Just call me Gabby McSocial

Yesterday Mark and I went to the Indiana Running Company for their very first group run. This store opened about a month ago and is a welcome addition to Bloomington's running community. It is SO nice to have a store where you can actually get professionally fitted for a pair of running shoes. Anyways, the staff there have big plans to get the community involved, and Mark and I are trying to take advantage. Bloomington does have a running club already, but we never managed to get involved with them. I can't really explain why. I think I just needed some time in the past few years to run on my own. But lately I've been wanting to be more social. And INRunCo is making a fresh start and it seemed like a good time to plunge in.

It was a nice run, just a 3-miler around campus. Most of the runners who came were college-age guys, some from Bloomington and others who attend IU. I tried to befriend the one other female who came, but she was too busy listening to her headphones (on a group run...can't figure that one out) so I left her alone. The pace was a bit fast, but no worries--I'll just call that my MP run for the week. There's another group run Thursday, and since we know the route this time, I'll take it a bit easier. I still need my "me" time, but running with others twice a week will be a nice change.

So the taper is going well so far; my legs seem to be recovering some of their bounce. I'm taking two days off this week (today and probably Friday) and the rest will be either 3 or 4 mile easy runs. Next week will be similar. I feel pretty good. The only problem is that I've been having some trouble sleeping the past couple of nights. Last night I tossed and turned for a long time before finally falling asleep, and then after something woke me up, I couldn't fall back asleep for another couple of hours. Today I'm dragging. Usually, I'm really good at sleeping. I think I'm just worked up in general, because of the upcoming marathon, and also because we're starting to pack up our stuff in preparation for the move.

The move is not until August, but since I have easy access to boxes from work, I've been taking them home so we can pack up some things, like winter clothes and the like. It is a relief to reduce the clutter in our extremely crowded apartment, and I always get into a frenzy of cleaning and organizing when this happens. And I am definitely excited to move into the bigger apartment, which will have a washer/dryer in the unit, and a dishwasher.

Hopefully I will calm down and get some sleep because I need it!
