Rush is upon me...

...which means there probably won't be much posting in the next six weeks or so. Last year, there was no posting, no running, no reading, no...well, you get the idea. This year will be better, I think. We have more people in my department and we're better organized, and I have more experience with the job. So if I have anything to say about it, I'll still be running and reading, if not posting quite as much. I'll just be up to my eyeballs in packets the whole time.

Luckily I managed to finish Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows before things really got started. I don't want to give anything away, but...wow. It's a great book, riveting. I was afraid to turn the pages at times, afraid of what was going to happen to these people I've come to know so well over the past seven or eight years, but at the same time I had to know. I spent 16 hours over the weekend at the Red Eye Relay, but I still finished HP by Sunday afternoon.

The Red Eye Relay was great fun, and I would love to do it again next year. The only bad thing about it was that I got sick right before my last leg and couldn't run. Luckily someone else was able to step in and we managed to finish smack dab in the middle of our goal range. But I ran two good legs, one of 4.8 miles in 40:00, and one of 8 miles in 69:23 (this one was at 2:30 in the morning, out in the middle of nowhere). That was an interesting experience. The light from my LED headlamp was bluish white and ghostly, and it was foggy, so everything I could see had a weird aura. The others in the support vehicle drove by often and stopped at intervals to give me water and encouragement, and I passed two other runners, but otherwise I was utterly alone. It was creepy, but fun also. I really want to do this again next year.

But now, it's time to buckle down into marathon training in earnest, and in work, and there won't be much time for anything else. ::plunge::

Wow, that relay sounds like a blast. I've always wanted to do something like that. Great job!

I also loved the HP book, one of the best I think.

Good luck with your training and work, hope to hear from you if you have time! :)

I love those middle of the night legs during those relays. I think they make you run faster. Your marathon is getting close! I'm about to start training again, the week of Aug. 5. I'm looking forward to reading about your training, Mir! I know you'll do well.

Ghostly images running at 2AM. I think that is what we have to look forward to for the Hood to Coast relay in a few weeks. I think next year I want to get a group for the Red Eye Relay and the Great Lakes Relay. I heard that one was fun also.
