The latest news

Whew, I have a lot to catch up on!

1. I have been laid off from my job. My division is being acquired by National Archive Publishing Company, the parent company of XanEdu, a larger course packet producer. TIS is cutting us all loose. The meeting in which we were officially told happened on Valentine's Day. Very classy. For those of us willing to relocate, we have a chance of staying on with XanEdu. The good news is, I still have a job for another two months, and then I'm getting a pretty good severance, so at least I don't have to panic quite yet. I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do, but I haven't ruled out moving. I'm searching for jobs here as well.

2. I am having my wisdom teeth pulled next week. Suffering from a fairly painful toothache last week, I went to the dentist. She told me I have pericoronitis, a condition that occurs when you procrastinate on getting your wisdom teeth taken care off. So I had this yucky (and painful) infection. That's what drugs are for! She gave me prescriptions for an antibiotic, a painkiller, and a mouth rinse, and I'm right as rain now, although the wisdom teeth still need to go. I'm just thankful I still have insurance to cover all of this.

3. Running continues to go really well. On Saturday the half marathon training group underwent our second challenge. We warmed up to the IU cross country course and then were given 20 minutes to run up this massive hill as many times as we could. I made it 15 times, and Mark did 16. I think I tied for second. Yay! I logged a whopping 46.9 miles for Pfitz Week 3.

The next day I moved my long run distance up to 14 (actually did 14.7). This was the most difficult run I've had in a while. I just felt "off" and couldn't get into a rhythm. I felt crappy, and the wind gusting to 45 mph didn't help! I had the opportunity to cut it short, but I'm proud of myself that I did not. I did have to stop to rest a few times though.

I was really discouraged after that! I was afraid I'd been overtraining, getting sick, or both. But even though I was sore yesterday during my 5-mile recovery run, I felt so much better that I knew Sunday was "just one of those runs." In the next two days I have a 10-mile medium long run and an 8-mile general aerobic run planned, but I haven't decided what order to do them in.

So, I guess that's it for news. It's been an "interesting" week. So, anyone want to offer me a job? :)

Sorry about the job. "When one door closes, another one opens..." Hopefully, soon for you.

Man, your running is going great.

Wow- what an update!

Sorry to hear about your job- my company got bought out over a year ago and I still fear getting the axe. But think of it as an opportunity- who knows where this will lead you!

I had my wisdom teeth removed only last year and it wasn't so bad. I would say it was more gross than painful. As a runner I think you can handle both pretty well. Plus you'll get a little break which certainly won't hurt.

Great job on the running- that hill workout sounds intense! And sounds like you defintely had "one of those runs" which we all have. You must be due for an awesome run.

Hang in there and good luck with your oral surgery! You'll be fine. :)

Sorry about your job, but you seem in good spirits about it, so maybe it was a good thing?

And oh-oh...I'm currently completely procrastinating on getting my wisdom teeth pulled....I might revisit this.

Hiya, stumbled upon your blog. Sorry to hear of your job situation, but as another commenter said, one door closes and another one opens. I have been through a layoff also. Nothing but good came out of it! Keep on runnin!

Sounds like a tough couple of days.
But it looks like the training is going well.

Just and FYI, the last Race of the Polar Bear series here in Lou, KY was better than what we had in Jan.

Unfortunately, I was coming off a illness, but still pleased.

Will keep popping in to see how it's going.
