Marathon no. 5, locked in

I just registered online for the Bayshore Marathon, this May in Traverse City. Around the end of January, I'll start actually training for it (I need to figure out a training schedule). For now, I'm just trying to keep in decent enough shape to have a good start to training. And, of course, the 4-miler coming up in January. I'll be helped in this by my new training buddy: a shiny new Garmin Forerunner 101 GPS sensor. I was so excited to get this for Christmas from my parents! It's wonderful: it gives you total run time, pace per mile, and distance. There are models with more features, like a heart rate monitor, etc., but this one suits me just fine. I can't wait to do tempo runs and long runs with this--no more trying to estimate distance based on a ten-minute per mile pace or plotting it all out in advance. I've used it a few times so far just for short runs and I love it.

For Christmas, I also got a beautiful scarf and purse from Joan and Mike, Mark's parents. Not to mention a nice big stack of books and movies. =D
