Whew

It's all over, and honestly it wasn't that bad at all. In fact, I didn't even work enough overtime to cover my medical bills. Good for the sanity and bad for the pocketbook.

We've moved into our new apartment and it's awesome. It has what seems to me like an obscene amount of space. It's actually taken a little getting used to. We still need to finish unpacking; after spending 19 hours moving and cleaning, I have been the victim of chronic laziness and have not finished with the last few boxes.

Running has been going tolerably well, even in the heat. I haven't been racking up the mileage like want, but I did run an extremely successful 20-miler last weekend. I was supposed to do 17 yesterday, but I skipped it because I'm so tired...and also, yesterday was our 5-year anniversary. The reason I'm tired is that we drove up to Chicago for a funeral and drove back on Saturday. We left a little before six, and then spent about four hours inching along I-80 in traffic. It was like a nightmare that I thought would never end, especially when my bladder almost exploded. People were running out of gas and pushing their vehicles, walking their dogs on the shoulder, and taking pictures. We played the license plate game and got 39 (including Wyoming, Alaska, and HAWAII) plus four Canadian provinces in about 10 miles; that's got to be a record. If it hadn't gotten dark we might have done even better. Ugh. We finally got off the highway and had dinner at like 10:30 p.m. (yummy, yummy pizza at a place called Paisano's on Calumet Avenue) before heading out again. It turned out the highway was flooded and completely closed off. A little warning would have been nice (what else are those giant digital signs used for?) or maybe they could have set up a detour. What a novel thought. We got home at 3 a.m.

Today I'm still sleepy and would like nothing better than to go back to bed. I have group run today, though, so hopefully by Tuesday I'll feel awake enough to make up my 17-miler.
