I want to thank you all for your kind comments in past few weeks...it's been kind of a rough time, but when I think of the trials faced by some others, it simply pales in comparison. Thanks for caring about my little problems. :)
Things do seem to be better with my foot. I ran four miles on Thursday, and although I could "feel" the place in my foot, it didn't flare up into actual pain. Friday I took off from running and settled for 45 minutes on the bike and 18 on the elliptical. Today I tried six miles (along with 22 on the elliptical as I waited for Mark at the gym). Today my foot seemed normal, and I'm cautiously optimistic (but not optimistic enough not to spend much of the day icing said foot). Both runs were on roads and sidewalks. I may try a longer, possibly, Long, run tomorrow. If so, I would likely run a series of out and backs on the Rail Trail, since it's a softer surface. Boring, but it would have two advantages--easier on my foot, and ability to add mileage in smallish increments depending on how things go. If I have pain tomorrow, I think I'm going to have to accept that my training will need to go on hold, but I still haven't given up hope that I can train through the problem. So...we'll see what happens.
So I end Week 6 of the Seat-of-Miranda's-Pants Training Plan with 36.2 miles--less than I wanted, but certainly a lot better than I thought it would be this time last week.
But the good news is, Daylight Savings Time is...well, I might as well go ahead and set the clock forward now. Yaaaaay light. I know the morning runners are groaning, and I'm really sorry...why can't it just be light from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. all the time? But I just can't help but rejoice. For most of the winter, the sun has risen as I drive to work, and set as I leave. Except for the weekends, I've run basically the same loop around campus almost every day since November. It is BORING. I am so ready for a change.

Mir,
I'll concede to anyone who tells me I'm wrong on this, so others can correct me, but...
It seems to me your cardio is good to go for the 1/2 marathon distance.
You can maintain that with eliptical work and keep the impact down on your foot, giving yourself time to heal up.
At this point, my uneducated opinion is that healing the foot is more important than any amount mileage. Your legs are used to the distance, I don't think replacing your running with the eliptical for 7-10 days would set you back. You might even come out of it with fresher legs.
I am an evening runner and daylight savings is truly a beautiful thing! Hooray sunlight!
