A running log

Another thing I would like to do this year is keep better track of running. The only time in my running life I've kept a decent training log was in high school, the preseason and season before my team advanced to the state finals in cross country my senior year. It's a simple notebook, and what fun to look back on it now. In college, I sent my coach mileage sheets so he would have numbers to play with during the summer (he's one of those guys who can tell you your PR with splits for any distance he's ever seen you run, and some he hasn't). Since then, I've tried a few times to restart the running log, but it always seems to fall by the wayside. The closest I've come is this blog, but I only rarely talk about specifics stats for any given training run. So, yesterday, I decided to start a training log on Cool Running. I'm hoping that not only will this help me keep track of my mileage, but help keep me motivated to run in the first place. All I have to do is log on and enter my stats (having the GPS will help immensely with that), and it records everything. I can look at weekly, monthly, and even annual mileage at the end of the year. It will also keep track of which shoes I wear, the weather, temp, etc. I am a fan. And not only that, it has a 20-week marathon training program that will start, for me, a week from today! It was obviously meant to be.
